Building a Quantify backend for QubiC control electronics

Hi community!

We have built and landed a new Quantify backend for QubiC control electronics, and it’s now driving real qubit measurements on actual hardware.

Like every Quantify backend, it comes down to two pieces: a compilation module that turns a Quantify Schedule into hardware native instructions, and an instrument coordinator component that uploads those instructions to the boards, runs them, and hands the results back as a regular Quantify dataset. Once that’s in place, the setup looks and behaves like any other Quantify-supported instrument to the user.

We bring this up because it’s a decent proof point for anyone sitting on their own control electronics and wondering whether a Quantify integration is worth it: the backend interface really is just those two pieces and Quantify documents exactly what’s expected of each. Backend API Requirements] defines the interface and what a backend needs to support, and the hardware backends guide walks through building one step by step. Building the proof of concept took us a few weeks in total.

Quantify itself is one of the open-source frameworks created and maintained by OrangeQS and can be found here. If you’re building or considering a backend for your own hardware, we’re happy to support. Feel free to start a thread to get support from the community.
